GET TO KNOW: JULIANNA VAN GOLEN
Get to know Julianna van Golen, the 16-year-old dimpled beauty from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
How were you scouted by The Brick? I was scouted by The Brick through Instagram! A photographer we both know told The Brick to check out my page, and thankfully, they liked what they saw!
What do you enjoy about being a model? I love meeting new people with all different backgrounds and have each person contribute to the finished product of the job. I love the fact that I can work with a team to make a vision come to life.
What’s something people may be surprised to learn about you? I was a competitive dancer for almost all my life and quit when I was about 13 to pursue my modeling career.
What item in your closet do you wear the most? I wear my black jeans and a white tube top the most. They are both so comfortable and can go with anything. You can dress them up or dress them down.
What inspires you? Looking through magazines or ads and seeing so many successful models doing what I aspire to do. It inspires me to work towards my goals.
What’s the most difficult thing you’ve ever done? The most difficult thing I've ever done was dance on a broken foot. I broke it in the middle of a dance, and I had to continue performing.
Where do you hope modeling will take you in life? I hope I'm able to travel the world and share my different experiences/stories. I hope to inspire other girls to express themselves freely and chase after their dreams.
Do you have an issue or cause you are passionate about? I want the fashion/modeling industry to be more open to people not normally represented. I hope that people with physical disabilities or limitations have the opportunity to do what they want in this industry and follow their dreams.
What are your beauty secrets? Drink tons of water and get plenty of sleep. Tea tree oil works great for skin and it helps to prevent breakouts. I also do face masks typically twice a week, and a hair mask once a week.
What photographer do you hope to work with in the future? Mario Testino or Patrick Demarchelier. They’re both very creative and have such cool concepts for all their shoots. Also, Kat Irlin, because her shoots are so moody and beautiful.
What was your most embarrassing moment? One time, I was walking in a show and my heel fell off on the runway. I had to kick it out of the way and walk the rest of the runway with one shoe on.
What’s your favorite hobby? My favorite hobby is shopping. I enjoy being able to express myself through clothes and put together outfits for my own style.
What is your favorite quote? “If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.”
